Baby Massage (0 - 12 months)

Some Gymboree Play & Music locations offer Baby Massage courses. These are delivered by trained Baby Massage Instructors who have a professional qualification in Baby Massage.

Baby massage is a longstanding parenting tradition in many cultures, including Indian and African, and was introduced to the western world during the last 30 years, gaining in popularity in the UK since the late 1990’s.

Baby massage is when a parent or primary carer lovingly strokes or holds their baby. Using a high quality non-fragranced vegetable oil, soothing holds and rhythmic strokes are given on each area of baby’s body, following a sequence that has been developed over many years. The massage offers a wonderful experience and a special time to communicate both verbally and non-verbally with babies, so that they feel loved, valued and respected.

We thoroughly enjoyed our baby massage course run by Nicole. She was very welcoming and created a nurturing space to relax and learn. The course was a great opportunity for not only time with your little, but also to meet other mums and learn a new skill. Would thoroughly recommend.

We loved the baby massage course at Gymboree. Steph is such a fantastic, welcoming and friendly teacher. Loved seeing my little one develop over the 5 weeks and met some other lovely mums.

My baby is now 3 and a half months and has been attending Sensory classes at Gymboree Play and Music St Albans since 6 weeks old. The classes really brighten our day- Weronika who runs the baby sensory classes is simply amazing and so enthusiastic, and we have found that the classes are very entertaining, fun, well structured and varied!

We also recently completed the IAIM Baby Massage Course at Gymboree Play and Music St Albans. It was super informative, enjoyable, and Steph who ran it could not have been more incredible and knowledgeable! Such a nice course that teaches techniques which can then be done at home- we have incorporated it into bedtime ‘routine’ and found it greatly helps relax our baby for bed.

Gymboree really has made not only my little one happy since starting, but also myself- it is run by the most amazing and friendly staff, and it really does have a ‘family’ feel to it :) A great place also to meet other parents and allow your baby to socialise with other babies! I would recommend their classes and courses to everyone!

I attended the 5-week baby massage course in St Albans with my little one (aged 16 weeks at the start of the course) and we both absolutely loved it! Steph (the course leader) was engaging and extremely patient and I’ve learned new techniques to practise at home. Would highly recommend!

I have recently completed a 5 week Baby Massage course with my 11 week old baby and cannot recommend the course enough. Steph (Gymboree St Albans) lead the sessions and was absolutely fantastic. The course was online due to current Covid restrictions but Steph did an amazing job making the sessions fun and engaging for both the adults and babies, and was on hand to answer any questions we had. The sessions were well structured, focusing on a different body part each week and the accompanying handbook is a really helpful reference point outside of the classes. I've found the massage techniques are not only great for relaxing the babies but also for their development, gently opening and stretching their bodies. It's a lovely way to bond with your baby too. Thanks Steph :)

I recently took part in a baby massage course with Steph from St Albans Gymboree. The course was online due to the latest COVID-19 restrictions, but Steph did a great job of demonstrating all of the strokes and keeping all of the mums and babies engaged. My 3 month old loved it and often fell asleep towards the end of the sessions as she felt so relaxed. Steph was very friendly, receptive and always on hand to offer good advice when needed. Thank you, Steph, for a great experience, despite the challenging circumstances.

Both of my children (3.5 years and 11 months) go to Gymboree Play & Music and love it. My toddler goes to their drop-off Lego class which she raves about. It's very creative, working not only on Lego skills but also painting, drawing etc. My infant son loves his Gymboree Play & Music Crawlers class - particularly loves crawling all over their props, through the tunnels, etc. Great way to get the infant crawling over obstacles! Gymboree Play & Music is part of our weekly schedule for both kids and we look forward to participating every week. Invaluable!

Gymboree Play & Music was a lovely and positive experience for my son Leo. We started when he was 9 months and he is now 3 years old, I wish we had started sooner.
He loves the songs (which is part of our daily singing at home), the freedom to explore and he was happy there. He looks forward to class every week and once class is over he will tell everyone about Gymbo and what he did.
For me, I liked that it taught him how to get down safely from a height, how to learn to use his body, and touching on different topics every 2 weeks. It gave me confidence in other environments to trust that he has the ability that he learned from Gymboree Play & Music and to trust him.

I’ve been taking both my newborn and toddler to Gymboree Play & Music for a couple of months now and both boys are really loving the classes and open gym sessions. It’s a great way to meet other mums, entertain toddlers at witching hour(!) and get ideas for sensory play with babies. Sophie and Cat are fantastic and have so much energy and loads of different ideas for the classes, plus make sure the activities it’s help children meet their development milestones as well. Highly recommend this if you’re thinking about joining!! Thanks so much Sophie, Cat and the wider team :-)
